Alston, it's a small town about 30 miles south-east of Carlisle. Not much to say about it apart from it and another nearby village named Nenthead had a prominent lead mine around 100 years back, which in turn is the reason it has a number of "red" roads passing through it to larger centres like Carlisle, Hexham and Penrith.
As for east or west, we're kind of in the middle, which makes sense because it's also one of the highest market towns in England (Altitude wise).
